Working
in a Family Business: a Non-family Member Perspective
Working within a family business environment presents its
own challenges for the non-family employee. On May 31, 2010
guest speaker, Andy Hunt made a presentation to the largest
group ever to attend a KFBG event. Andy grew up in Peterborough
and is now President and COO of one of the largest Canadian
family-owned businesses, Day & Ross General Freight, part of
the McCain family business. Visiting from Hartland New
Brunswick, Andy covered the pros and cons of being a non-family
member working in a family business, as well as how Day &
Ross recovered from the economic downturn and are thriving
today. (KFBG Members can view Andy's presentation in the Members

Events
Our events are geared to all family business members - large or
small - big industry or "Mom and Pop" businesses. We
keep our topics relevant for all. Each year, we plan a Spring
Series and Fall Series of Events designed to address the topics
you want to hear about. We believe that family business has
unique needs and we provide an environment to address these
needs and interact with other families who have shared
experiences.
Connect
KFBG gives family business members the opportunity to Grow and
Connect. It is valuable to meet like-minded business peers and
KFBG encourages members to mingle and make connections at each
event. KFBG has a number of professional advisors who actively
participate in the planning, execution and delivery of our
programs. Our events allow family business members to meet
advisors and learn more about the services they offer - in an
environment that is casual and inviting.
Website
This website provides a protected section for "members
only". Here our members will find more resources, tools and
information that are relevant, timely and very specific to the
family business.

Can Join?
Our definition of a family business is the following: Any
business that is owned and operated by more than one family
members. KFBG has members from Peterborough and areas as far
away as Bobcaygeon. We would like to expand the geography of our
members and encourage members from the surrounding area. Our
events are planned for the end of the working day (typically
